Organizational Challenge

A health insurance company requested an executive development process for high potential executives (vice president & director level) that focused on the development of the critical leadership competencies of Innovation, Systems Thinking, and Coaching / Mentoring.

Steps Taken

Conducted a needs analysis with the Executive Team and Stakeholders to uncover emerging business issues that connected to the required leadership competencies and behaviors. From this data, an Executive Development Program was designed that created awareness and application of leadership behaviors required to drive the business needs. The leadership solution was a 4-day Executive Development Program, which incorporated a full range of development tools, a customized 360 feedback instrument, personality assessments, peer feedback and executive coaching. The overall strategic focus of the leadership development solution was to:

  1. Develop leaders who can address the business challenges
  2. Develop leaders who can connect, engage, align and develop people
  3. Develop leaders who are personally effective

Leadership Outcomes

Post program evaluation findings indicated that participants benefited from having a deeper understanding of leadership and how they could take this insight and learning into their day-to-day work. All eight of the program outcomes were met or exceeded, and seen as applicable to their work:

  3. Understand Impact of Personality Preferences
  4. Contribute Effectively to Success of a Team
  5. Provide Effective Coaching & Feedback

There was an increased focus on developing others within the organization, either in individual interactions (coaching/mentoring) or within team settings. In addition, program learning was enabled from classroom facilitation. Participants felt that the facilitator was experienced and knowledgeable with the program content, and also talented at creating a comfortable and nurturing learning environment.
